Trip to Goa

Well you must have guessed from the title what this post is about and as promised to my friend(s) I am writing about our trip to goa. With a very optimistic thought I am writing this post under a new label or category called "Travel" hoping that this is just the beginning and will go on more such vacations in the days to come. This was not the first time I went on a trip with friends, first time was a class trip to coorg during engineering days,
second time being a trip to kodaikanal with close friends, then a trip to kerala with a friend at office and her friends but this was truly the most unorganized trip ever. Though this trip was pending from one month it all happened in such a hurry  that there was hardly any time to plan or do some research. Plan initiated at 4 pm during the class break, after a lot of discussions and hesitations finalized at 5 pm, tickets booked at 5.30 pm for a 9 pm bus.

After an overnight journey reached Panjim on Sunday morning and took a cab to Baga beach. This was my first trip to Goa and i was super excited about it, I liked the city, the way houses were built and people dressed  themselves very clearly exhibited the cultural influence of the Portuguese. Travelling with people who have already visited the place more than a couple of times has its own pros and cons, while you can easily crack good deals finding accommodation or travel, the number of places you get to explore becomes limited. The guest rooms we stayed at were 2 mins by walk from the Baga beach, after a few mins of relaxation we all headed towards the beach and at the sight of the water the kid in me came alive and I could wait no longer to plunge into the water. The first half of the day was spent mostly inside the water, was a little afraid initially but slowly got used to it.
Having spent more than 3 hours on and off the water we were all very hungry so got back to the rooms, freshened up and headed for lunch around 5 pm and after long discussions on the venue we successfully had lunch by 8 pm post which we hired bikes and headed towards Anjuna beach and attended a party at Hill Top. While everyone else loved the music and the crowd, I felt a little uncomfortable considering that I am not used to such loud music and am almost a demophobic. On the way back to Baga what we all did was unbelievable, we gate crashed a top class christian wedding which was happening on the lake side and had entrance from the main road through a resort. Not only did we all eat and drink (some of them did), but also managed to rock the dance floor and collect the return gifts (laddoo packets) and paan. After the fun we had at the wedding headed towards our rooms on our bikes, i have never loved riding the bike as much as I then did, it was a superb experience, riding at 2 am in the night on a narrow curved road with no street lights and the thick fog through which we could only see the tail lights of the bike in front was like an icing on the cake, adding to the fun we all started singing songs and this was no different from a hindi movie scene.

The next day was dedicated to water sports and this was the first time i was trying adventure sports like Para sailing, Jet skiing, Banana ride and Bumping ride.I am amused on the way i fearlessly enjoyed all these rides, it was more than fun and little difficult for me to describe in words. My favourite rides being the banana ride and para sailing. I was loving it all, the vastness of the sea, the cool breeze, the heights, the speed, the sudden throw off the boat into the water, floating in mid sea, struggling to get back to the boat and most importantly the feeling of being free and away from all the worries  bonds, emotions and feelings, in one word if i have to say i was" Unleashed ". So much so that even the uneasiness of the salt water entering into the eyes did not matter.

The next day was our last day in Goa so spent some time shopping for family and frnds . Major part of the day was spent on a wonderful dolphin ride along with some sight seeing to Goa Central Jail, KingFisher Villa , DCH shooting spot and exploring fort Aguada. On the dolphin ride we were lucky enough to spot many dolphins though missed to capture them on my cam but the ride was very relaxing and rejuvenating. Like i mentioned this was one of the most unorganized trips ever, we headed back towards baga, had lunch on the way and booked our return tickets. Had done most of the packing in the morning so there was nothing to worry about. After relaxing for a while went to bid a final good bye to the beach and got to see the sunset. The beach looked more beautiful and calmer than it did during the day and the setting sun brought in a gloomy feeling and like they say all good things come to an end the trip had also come to an end.

It was a vacation I needed from the hue and cry of the daily life routine and i definitely feel good after it. Hopefully the feeling will last long. Was initially worried about the tan but i am now loving it and the tattoo (though dad hates it ;)).

P.S.: A small tip, carry two pairs of clothes (or at least 2 tops) per day and sharpen your bargaining skills.

  1. Hi Zor,
Reading your post reminded me of some of the last minute drawn trips that I have been to and trust me you will remember them forever.

Seems like you have had exciting time and hope the refreshing feeling continue. You are right, a break is definitely needed and no better way to do that than 'Traveling' which I am beginning to learn.

I had been to Goa but that was more like educational and lot less fun. There certainly wasn't a para-gliding for sure. Would LOVE to go there you know and that would be my first out plan after I go back to India. More importantly as I was recently telling my friend, I would give anything in my life to be there at the DCH spot. Its a movie I can experience ANY number of times and being there at that historic place is a heaven to me. My time awaits.

Actually I did read this long back but was too much work occupied and had my own backlog of travelogue blogging to cover, which I did to certain extent. So, here goes my comment. Keep rocking, Cheers!

P.S. With all those beads and chains you have got certainly well decked for the trip.

  2. Hey Zohra, i had been to Goa in last month and like you said, u need lots of bargaining skills! a not so useful pair of goggles was priced for Rs. 485!!! which i had estimated to be within Rs. 100. Other destinations and attractions i had visited there were Aguada fort, mambo's, baga beach, the shacks there and the watersports. Although couldn't sight any of the dolphins like u did :(
